I read slop. Paranormal romance, YA type shit, scifi, whatever. But something fun I can engage my imagination with. Problem is they’re usually ignorant as hell of real world shit so the whiplash can be a bit maddening sometimes. I need some polyamorous communist werewolf romance slop instead of them always being military or cops or some shit. I did ready the Iron Widow series a couple weeks ago and the second book, Heavenly Tyrant, is pure commie propaganda. So that was a nice change.
The book is dedicated to Qiu Jin, Rosa Luxembourg, Thomas Sankara, Salvador Allende, and “others who came before, along with those who will come after”.
It’s good. YA so temper your expectations, but it’s good propaganda. The writing in the second book is better too, but ya gotta read the first one for the story to make sense.
Word. Note that Iron widow is still pretty YA tropey, kinda rough writing. Though there’s good polyamory going on. The commie propaganda really kicks in on Heavenly Tyrant.
Btw, A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers is very warm, sweet, short, and majorly changed my view on life. Idk if she’s communist, but money doesn’t exist in the world of that book. You also don’t have to work if you can’t/don’t want to in this society, and people will still take care of you. Reading it has been described as the feeling of someone handing you a warm cup of tea.
I LOVE Becky Chambers! The Monk and Robot series are wonderful, as are the Wayfarer series, AND she’s starting a new duology coming out this October! Someone here on hexbear recommended the Monk and Robot series a while back and I read the first one and like a week later I had read everything I could find that she had published.
