    The only country I don’t see listed that feels deserving of some hate is Spain. They are much better in modern times, but historically they were evil af

      It’s just so been like 200 years since they were a meaningful imperial power, so no one really feels the need to go after them. At some point you gotta have a statute of limitations for inactivity. Otherwise Mongolia would be up there.

      these days Spain is mostly a back-channel for siphoning Euro wealth back to the colonies

      Spanish workers go make money in Germany and send it home. Latam workers go to Spain to make that German money and send it home. Nature slowly heals.

      Same for Portugal. The Carnation Revolution was a huge change and afaik the only time a European colonizer just said “go on, you’re free now” to its colonies. But everything before that was :yikes-1::yikes-3:

      Unfortunately my grandfather was drafted to fight in Salazar’s wars attempting to keep control of the colonies.
