This kind of rhetoric (most of it; Hamas is a resistance organization and much of what they’ve been accused of has been proven false and Israel is refusing to allow any further independent investigations) is exactly what we’ve all been saying, and it’s Marjorie Taylor Greene saying it?
Have I woken up in an alternate universe? Is the Mandela effect happening?
Literally that first part most especially: trying to explain to people by asking themselves to try putting themselves in the shoes of people from Gaza; it’s a sentiment I barely see from pro-Palestinian democrats, but now MTG is saying it? Asking people to think about what it’s like if they were going through this?
Also I want to mention, cause it bears mentioning, MTG actually spoke out AGAINST refusing Gazan children to go to America to receive aid.
Seriously, have I woken up in an alternate universe?
Although I sympathize with many attempts on this site to figure out what these bloodsuckers think, I think most of the time it’s a futile endeavor. MTG is not Henry Kissinger with a well thought out ideology and extremely deliberate goals. She is like most Americans - completely incoherent on the subject of politics.
This is a woman from suburban Atlanta, 4 or so years out of college she is given her father’s contracting company. Then at one point she becomes a CrossFit coach. She not active politically until 2016 when she is at that point like 42 years old. She spends a measly 3 years involved with various far right John Birch style conspiracy initiatives, where she holds such esteemed titles as “Facebook group moderator” and then decides to run for congress.
She’s a great tool of the bourgeoisie but she is hardly the one pulling the levers of power. She has a bunch of extreme far right ideas rattling around in her brain, a whole lot of antisemitism, the typical American veneration of the “entrepreneur,” but none of these things add up to any coherent worldview. She’s merely reacting to the last thing she saw based on whatever contradictory ideas she’s picked up throughout her life that have stuck in her brain like a bee wading through pollen. I’m sure as horrible and racist and antisemitic as she is she still doesn’t view herself as a “bad person.” Maybe some video slipped through the algorithm and she was forced to see what the war in Gaza actually looks like. Sure she wants to glass the place, but she’s still a suburban mom who wants to “save the children.” Or whatever who knows why she came to this decision. But show her some more Israeli propaganda or make up another “Hamas is boiling children alive in cauldrons like medieval witches” lie and then she’ll react to that. I wouldn’t put much stock in this whole thing. All it’s proof of is that Israel is losing support even among the dogs of empire as this genocide goes on, and the great Trump mandate is beginning to falter.
This is the answer.
I could name like 12 women I’ve met personally who are nearly identical to MTG in both ideology and appearance. All of them, if you showed them pictures of children being starved to death and told them “Israel is doing this with American weapons” would say “That’s fucked up someone should stop them”
Marjorie Taylor Greene can best be described as “some white lady” and literally nothing deeper than that. But that places her far to the left of the Democratic Party because the average “some white lady” thinks that killing children is wrong
I’m not sure if I’d characterize her as far to the left of the Democratic Party. This is still the woman who describes herself as a Christian nationalist, doesn’t believe in evolution, has used three percenters as security at campaign events, and believes Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are part of a Muslim invasion of the us.
Sorry, when I said “far to the left of the Democratic Party” I did mean on this issue specifically.
“Killing children is wrong” is far to the left of the Democratic Party’s position on Israel.
Yeah except for me a number of democrats have already referred to the Gaza situation as a genocide before MTG. And even among dems who haven’t described it this way, more and more are beginning to break ranks, vote against arms sales, start to criticize US policy on Israel, at least with regards to the current genocide. I do agree she has outflanked the core of the Democratic Party which remains staunchly pro-Israel, but the core of the Republican Party also remains staunchly pro-israel. There are congresspeople on both sides of the aisle breaking rank, MTG is not really notable in this regard.
one foot on either side
legs wide open, Arby’s falling out her pant leg
Even this obscures her role. The above is not a radical statement. As some have pointed out it’s not particularly incompatible with a moderate Zionist position or some two-state solution lib. Further, who knows how she came to her position. As many have pointed out there are plenty of Nazis who oppose Israel and we’re not going to start praising them as leftists.
Also let’s not forget the context of this statement. Support for Israel is slipping, among the public and on both sides of the aisle in congress. MTG, as she hints at in the statement, was after 10/7 supportive of Israel. She censured Tlaib and has stood in extreme opposition to pro-Palestine protests, calling for failing students who are protesting, defunding universities that allow protests to happen and echoing Stephen Miller’s call to deport “Hamas supporters” aka pro-Palestine protesters. But the cracks are now beginning to show across the political spectrum. This statement is weird and surprising coming from her, but it’s a position come to through complete incoherency and contradictory ideas and no reasoning any of us would identify as “left-wing,” it’s not even particularly radical. Meanwhile we know who MTG is. She serves and has only ever served the purposes of the far right. This statement is notable only in offering proof that support for Israel is declining even among its staunchest defenders.
someone like that outflanking the democrats on the easiest slam-dunk issue ever of “murdering children is bad, actually” just makes democrats look worse.
Yeah I wrote pretty much this same response to someone else but I do agree with you she’s outflanking the core of the Democratic Party which remains staunchly pro-Israel, but a number of democrats have already broken ranks, described the Gaza situation as a genocide, voted against arms sales, etc. MTG’s position is not particularly notable except for the fact that it’s coming from a republican since the core of the Republican Party also remains staunchly pro-Israel. She’s being reported as the “first Republican in Congress to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as a genocide” since a number of democrats have already done this before her. There are congresspeople in both parties breaking ranks as support for Israel declines, I don’t think MTG’s statement is particularly notable except for the fact that it’s coming from her.
Does Hamas deserve it? No.
MTG doesn’t care about Palestinians, she’s grifting because she’s a white nationalist who hates Jews (she fails to distinguish between Jews and Zionists). Candace Owens claims to support Palestinians, too, and for the same reason.
Also, what she really wants isn’t an end to the imperial death machine, she wants it redirected towards Iran and/or China.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend?
88 in username is fuckin sus in this context.
Is there a context where it isn’t? Only people who use it are people who are nazis or people claiming to use it “ironically” (i.e. nazis too cowardly to admit they are nazis)
(also ill informed new-netters born in 1988; but they’ll usually rename their account or get pissed for being sussed)
Yeah I’m not renaming my account. I like the number 88 and I’m keeping it. I am not a Nazi, and happy to clear up any misunderstanding.
In that case consider the fact that you will be assumed to be a Nazi until proven otherwise. And no I will not take you at your word.
I’m not changing. They can change. This is my name; it is a poorly made reference to the show Home Movies which nobody will get but me, and I like the number 88. I just found out about this dog whistle shit like last week and it pissed me off. I thought about changing my name after, but then I said no, fuck that. I’m not changing. They don’t get to bastardize the number 88 which is a fun, positive number. It’s like infinity repeating. I love it. They can suck my fat hairy balls.
In Mandarin the number eight bā sounds like 发 fā which means ‘produce’ (kinda) in the ‘facai’ of ‘get wealthy’ and is often seen as an auspicious, so 88 (fafa) in those contexts is possibly innocuous (though I have seen edge/cryptofash memes that use this ambiguity to spread the HH interpretation)
Lol, it must be exhausting.
My username has nothing to do with Nazis, they don’t have a monopoly on the number 88. I was curious why she would say something like this is all. I’m not infecting Lemmy with Nazi propaganda, don’t worry.
Your name also looks a lot like 4chan format so forgive me for not giving you the benefit of the doubt.
Wait wait, just cuz I named myself ZiggyHeiler it doesn’t mean what you think it means. Just cuz I happen to like certain Hindu religious symbols painted on white circles with red backgrounds doesn’t make me, ya know… I’m really not, really. Believe me. I mean it. Not kidding. Just a coincidence. Totally innocent mistake. You must be so tired from being so judgey. I’m definitely not spreading recognizable dog whistles around Lemmy. I would NEVER.
the enemy of my enemy is my enemy’s enemy, nothing else. turn your back on someone like this and it’ll still have a knife in it before you can blink.
There are cases where that applies and the left has allies of circumstance. MTG is not one of those cases.
Pulling out the Dril tweet once again: https://xcancel.com/dril/status/831805955402776576#m
You DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, “gotta hand it to them”
The enemy of my enemy is amiably walking me to the edge of a cliff so they can shove me off.
Sure, you and MTG are invited to our next meeting. We’re hosting it in here:
I can’t really tell what that is. The barbara pit? You want to have me executed? Am I reading this right?
apologies. The comment and your name made me jump the gun. Coming into a communist forum with 88 in your name is just going to lead to people thinking you’re a nazi, myself included
You know what, I have been learning a lot since I joined Lemmy. I didn’t even know this was a communist space, it just pops up in my feed a lot. I didn’t mean to agitate anyone, just here trying to learn. I don’t blame you, I guess my original comment was a bit of a dumb question.
I just found out 88 is a Nazi symbol last week, and I saw someone else say people usually change their names when they find out. But I don’t want to do that. Maybe it’s misguided, but I feel like if I change my name then that gives them more power over the number. I’ve had to defend this name a few times now so I guess I’m becoming attached, ha. I won’t let them have it.
I’ll assume you’re operating in good faith for now, and will give you some advice. Under your current username you will find that a lot of people’s initial response to you will be one of animosity, as 88 is a quite well established dog whistle.
You may also find the wrong people trying to befriend you under the assumption that you’re “one of them” eventually leading to a feeling of betrayal when you realize that the person you’ve been chatting with is actually a really shitty human being.
For a more enjoyable online experience my recommendation would be to establish yourself under a different name to avoid drawing the wrong kind of attention.
No, no they are not.
This is definitely just slimy ass opportunism, but she hits all the right points to convince gullible people she’s being sincere. Basically, she’s evolved into a life form that’s perfectly suited to thrive in the nuclear wasteland of Capitol Hill
She’ll do anything to stop more Jewish space lasers from being built.
Having the far right saying exactly the same thing we’re saying using the same language we use will quite successfully turn liberals away from resistance or make them question whether it is actually antisemitism.
I don’t actually see it as a good thing. I think there’s so many ways zionists can use it to their benefit. Liberal zionists in particular will use it to convince people horseshoe theory is real.
It could also be a way of appeasing those actually concerned about genocide but are otherwise republicans. Just keeps them attached to the party to keep voting for them
well yeah its ammunition for conflating anti-zionism with antisemitism, and in the end she’s helping the zionists
Hamas does not deserve it
Hamas did nothing wrong.
“we should be spending that money to murder brown people here at home”
when you analyze these people, you have to understand that they have learned that liberal politics is incredibly effective at making noise and staving off popular dissent. it’s the erasure of context. even the fascists are liberals and they’ll act like it when it suits them. the fact that she can outflank democrats to the left with this historically nonsensical hog rhetoric is just evidence of the complete and utter necrosis in the democratic party: all the organs are rotting
American politicians should never live down making MTG look like a voice of reason on this. Fucking MTG.
She is a fucking Nazi.
Broken clocks, also a misrepresentation of how taxes work. The govt spends the money and gambles to gain it back with taxes.
do not celebrate this person. She’s brought up “jewish space lazers” in the past.
She’s brought up “jewish space lazers” in the past.
She’s also spouted off Holocaust denial. And not the “The Allies killed 947 billion people at Dresden!” type of denial the misinformed stumble into. It was IIRC “There’s no way the Germans could have killed more than a few thousand people because the ovens weren’t big enough” type of denial used by neo-nazis.
She later apologized, saying she didn’t know it was Holocaust denial/fake news. But never believe the antisemites. She apologized because she got caught. She knows damn well it was Holocaust denial and was using it to pander to her actual, unironically KKK base.
The govt spends the money and gambles to gain it back with taxes.
In the case of the US they really don’t mind whether they gain it back or not, since the USD is the global reserve currency the US federal reserve and banks can create as much money as they want and the Global South needs the dollars so much that they’ll provide the labor and resources necessary for that money to have value.
Sorry to MMT post but I think it’s especially ironic in this context, because it means Global South labor is exploited to produce bombs that kill Global South workers.
Eh, throw enough shit at a wall and some of it is bound to stick.
Did something tragic happen recently to her personally involving death? Ordinarily republicans seem to only be able to see things through their own eyes.
In the end this is just a moderate zionist position
