not to downplay this specific action, but the FBI has been doing this for decades, yes, even after COINTELPRO, they didn’t stop. I’m sure all the big US orgs have a few agents in them, probably in leadership positions too because they work like they’re paid to be there (cuz they are lol) and blow most struggling volunteers out of the water.
Not saying that PSL/DSA/whatever is “an op” in their entirety, but you would be foolish to think that the feds aren’t keeping tabs on our activities, especially now they are going rabid. Undercovers are cheap and an relatively easy way to do that with public orgs. Mind your OPSEC comrades, but remember that the Okhrana couldn’t stop the Bolsheviks.
Given the number of young, black, male leaders within BLM chapters killed while in police custody or under mysterious circumstances (it’s over a dozen), I think COINTELPRO was passed down to police departments. I’m sure the FBI still does fed shit, but I think most of the work is now done by local cops.
