I wear an N95 daily and I get a lot of harassment. The lightest is random people on the street swearing at me, and the worst so far was a guy stalking me home to tell me my mask contained 49 heavy metals and cornering me. I am quite afraid for my physical safety at this point especially as also queer and self defense in this shithole is basically illegal. People constantly ask snarky side remarks about why I wear a mask, and it’s so tiring but at least I wish it was only that and I didn’t need to fear for my safety

Be nuttier than them, tell them they can recognize faces from satellites now, and you care about your privacy. Anti-masking person is more likely to believe this than germ theory

My conspiracy is relatively harmless in that it points to plausible, if non-existent, issue (e.g. facial recognition in say cars or ring cameras). If you say those satellites are chinese, for example, you already helping porky.

Chemtrails is non-useful conspiracy, cause it points to nothing existing (aside from that time usa army sprayed cadmium around, but we don’t talk about that). and being gay is fine doggirl-kiss so you gotta invent something plausible, left-compatible, parallel to reality and nuts.

(if you say real stuff about ring cameras, they would think you are porch thief or whatever the fuck, cause they own that camera themselves)

Good idea I’ll try, thanks! I am more worried about the types that seem violent directly without any conversation. Seen more than one that just seem like they would assault me. Especially scary at night

try to strike libertarian “gobmint telling me what to do” vibe, not auntie fa hiding from fbi, you know. although i never met with immediately violent types, just weird anti vaxxers, with some libertrian or wild ideas.

I really like this one myself. And it’s honestly kinda valid on its own? Not so much satellites but facial recognition and the surveillance state in general. “There’s cameras everywhere, I don’t want Bill Gates tracking me. Did you know he’s buying up all the farmland?” Maybe ditch the last part if you don’t wanna invite a conversation.

I’m lucky enough to live in a community where like 10% of people still mask, so I don’t get much shit for it.

I think masking became a symbol of some people feeling repressed or victimized by the lockdowns and probably whatever health problems they experienced during that time. I don’t know what to do about it. It fucking sucks how they were politicized.

When people have asked I just say “I can’t afford to be sick”.

dress like a punk if you can pull that off. buddy system when available.

if you see someone starting to approach pantomime coughing so they think you’re sick or pull out your phone and take a fake call bunch of “hey mom, yeah uh huh yeah no right” kinda shit,

if you’re comfortable after they come up to you take the mask off and cough on them

I’m not sure if this would work with masks but whenever someone has tried to debate lord me over not eating animals I start viscerally describing the most horrible aspects of the meat industry I can think of and they generally back off immediately. Maybe get a little manic and start talking about how Covid will fuse your brain cells together and that you don’t want brain damage, if you can hold your eyes open extra wide while you begin ranting, almost like they’re not there they’ll probably leave you alone.

People have a tendency to become automatically confrontational when they perceive that you’re doing something they probably instinctively know is bad but aren’t willing to inconvenience themselves over.

    Aggressively baa. 🐏

Ooh, or say it’s a fetish thing. I’ve contemplated telling people I have the nunya virus nunya business! but most folks don’t confront me. More passive aggressive shit like dirty looks and things.

Edit: I’ve also seen a couple masking performers wearing a gater over their n95s. That seems to be more socially acceptable. Of course now that ICE does it idk.

I’ve got a husky figure and RBF, so most of the time the only people brave enough to say shit are in their cars speeding past me, so it’s like

    frothingfash theairisdeadlyouknow

My partner: What did they say?

Me: I dunno, something about sucking ass

First off, I’m really sorry you’re being harassed simply for protecting yourself and your community. I’ve heard some people say that decorating their masks makes people less likely to challenge them, since it becomes more of a fashion accessory than this stark medical device. I think the most common decorations for disposable N95s are mask chains, thin cloth covers, and rub-on transfers. You can also get masks that have different colors or even printed designs (e.g. these Wellbefore masks which are KN95s but have a headstrap option).

Some sort of cover for the mask perhaps? Gaiters seem popular among chuds on their own without masks (for that operator look) so you might slip right under their radar by wearing one over it. Otherwise I think you can act crazed or like others said invent some conspiracy theory about how it protects you from something in the air like government experimental micro-metal particles that the military is pumping in to poison the brains of the population. See they argue because they think they can intimidate you or think you’re delusional and operating off bad info, so if you lean into that only in a direction they have no talking points to deal with they’ll short circuit.
