      Brazilian Jiu Jitsu should be compared to drawing more often. I think the time scale to competency and level of complexity is similar. White belts are essentially doodling faces and stick figures and getting frustrated that their proportions are off and they’re not getting clean line work. Of course you’re not. You don’t know anything about the medium, this is your first time learning about form, light, and anatomy. I could use a crayon and make something more aesthetically pleasing than you because I know, generally, how to draw a proportionate looking face.

      Don’t ever get discouraged by your abilities below brown belt and instead maximize learning. When you know how to draw you’ll make a lot less silly mistakes.
