Oh yeah, this was absolutely a trial balloon. If there hadn’t been an immediate backlash this would have been rolled out across all US armed forces.
Looking forward to the discourse around the Graham Platner of the moment 20 years from now that “accidentally” got a hate symbol tattoo in the few hours when it was “acceptable”.

Watch him do the impossible and get his nazi tattoo uncovered.
He just gets an actual swastika inked on top of the cover up
He gets a full back tattoo of “Arbeit macht frei”. And then he says he didn’t know what it meant exactly but he thought it was a message of solidarity of everybody “working together” to make a better world.
No, that’s Charlie Chaplin on my bicep, not who you’re saying. Yeah he’s wearing a uniform, it’s from one of his movies or whatever.
I got a Black Hole Sun tat on my right calf because I love Soundgarden so much. But then people told me the symbol was something bad. I didn’t know that! And they told me the music wasn’t even Soundgarden. But I didn’t know that either! All of this is very, very confusing.

I just love the Finnish Airforce so I wanted one of their traditional symbols
“It’s going to be a maze when it’s finished!”
Seems easy since it looked like he put a temp one over it. Otherwise healed waaaay to quickly
In the future everyone is going to ask where you were on the Day of the Apolitical Coast Guard Swastika.
With the paywall, all I can see is the hed and dek, but changing the swastika and noose to “potentially divisive” seems like they just didn’t like the PR they were getting from the first announcement.
“Potentially divisive” was the new status that was previously announced. This atticle is about a reversal of that decision.
Maybe they meant “potentially divisive” in a “your head should be divided from your neck” sense

Potentially!

After I don’t watch old-school cartoons for a long time - once the music plays I’m always instantly reminded how excellent the music is in them.
Idk if you already know, but part of the aim of the og looney tunes was to get kids to listen to classical music, or at least feature it prominently. It was called looney tunes (not 'toons) for a reason
