The other day I got back into listening to old school hip hop on internet radio. Anyway I’m reminded why I don’t like them or how they sound, it’s more annoying than anything else. It’s like rap for white people. Compared to standup acts like Public Enemy, Eazy E, KRS One or Digital Underground.
I feel like they would agree with you
i like the thing where they all say the word at the end of the line regardless of who’s turn it is
they’re the OG quirked up white boys

Based-e Boys?
Shame she passed a year later but that’s cool!
The Beastie Boys had a knack for putting out singles that captured the zeitgeist but still sounded distinctly like The Beastie Boys. But yah, from a pure rap skill perspective they’re not top tier.

that is very much a 2025 opinion of them. Hello Nasty is a great album though and they absolutely were groundbreaking. I actually saw their last performance at Bonnaroo.
it’s rap by white people for people, they’re white boys out of a hardcore band, their skills maybe not be one par with some of the greats you mentioned, but to say they aren’t talented and don’t have a lyrical flavour far beyond over half of all rappers, and especially other white boys like vanilla ice and even like half of SS era Eminem is silly
I wouldn’t listen to them directly, but if they come up on a playlist I usually think “this is fine I won’t skip it”
they’re fine they aren’t incredible but they aren’t bad either
Idk I feel like calling them rap for white people is a bit unfair. The only person I’ve ever seen say anything bad about them is Just-Ice, they seem pretty well respected by their contemporaries, nothing that would suggest some sort of Vanilla Ice situation. I mean regardless of your thoughts on their music lol, not arguing that you have to like them.
I get that, it’s a me problem then I suppose.
I mean I get what you’re saying. Their first album especially is very joke-y and frat-y. Like there’s no doubt listening to it that this is rap music made by a bunch of white boys. But there’s a lot of manufactured white people rap out there and the beasties seem genuine. And as I say nearly all of their contemporaries give them respect which I think is big.
Despite being a big fan, I can’t really argue with this take.
Beastie Boys walked so the Northern Boys could run
I LOVE CRACK and yes they are good, I like them way better than the beastie boys

Yeah but have you considered Sabrosa is fucking baller?
sabrosa is one of those songs where the whole thing sounds like an intro.
