I got a new analog clock for my kitchen since the old one I had for decades finally gave out. I grew up with these things, it wasn’t until I was a bit older that digital came to dominate clockspace. Anyway I have a thing where like I’ll look at the time on my phone, and then forget what time it is five mins later. Unlike if I look at a clock face I end up remembering and keeping track of the time.
Digital. I like the specificity and the ability to set it to 24 hours.
Samies, then I still have to convert it mentally to PM because I’m an Amerikkkan.
I like analogue clocks because I have a very visual and geometric thought process, and the radial slices of time make a lot of sense to me. In particular, I find it more intuitive to estimate time intervals that cross the hour mark.
I prefer digital wristwatches, though. They’re more instantly readable in direct sunlight or low light.
I prefer analog for the vibes, but digital is just more practical in every situation.
I like silly clocks, like binary clocks and word clocks
Analogue since I’m a bit in the ‘kids can’t read an analogue clock these days’ camp.
I also have one next to the coffee machine to help time my extraction and shots. It’s mot hard to add 30 to a base 60 number system, but I don’t need to properly time a shot, it’s just half a sweep of the clock face with the second hand.
Analog ones all the way, including wind-up alarm clocks. Tic-tac-tic-tac-tic-tac.
For the sake of variety, I like both. I wear an analog watch face, but most of the clocks in my house are ddigital. I’d enjoy having more analog clocks in my place tho.
i have no use for them but analog clocks look cool. i recently met someone who couldnt read them which was pretty crazy. i still remember how they taught us to read one as little kids with a comically oversized brightly colored clock.
this also unlocked a silly memory
gender roles bullshit
one time i wanted to buy this minimalist analog clock that was white and wood colored. my mother proceeded to tell me “uhmmm this looks like its for girls” and didnt let me have it. (???)
When I was in the psych ward I met a younger dude that couldn’t read a clock, and like you I was puzzled, since it’s something I learned in elementary school in the early 90’s. This dude was only in his 20’s though so maybe they just fail the kids today by not bothering to teach them that skill?
Zoomers don’t know how analog clocks work just like how millennials don’t know how slide rules work.
i have dyscalculia and despite literal thousands of hours of teachers trying to teach me the analog clock and a.m./p.m., i just couldn’t. i can, but it takes me a dozen seconds to make sure i’m reading it right. so help me if i need to calculate duration or plan my travel around it.
just give me the straight numbers in this nychthemeron or leave me alone /lh
yeah maybe because now digital clocks are everywhere and in your pocket. still it would take like ten minutes or so to teach someone how to read analog soooo idk
I like the idea of analog clocks but the ticking noise they make drives me up the wall so it’s all digital for me
FYI silent analogue mechanisms exist.
This one I got has no tick so that’s a plus.
totally get that, for some reason i really enjoy the ticking now when there used to be times i didn’t like it. i think i also just like something to be in constant movement in my space or else i get a little antsy.
It can be annoying but it’s also comforting in a way. It gives you a sense that things are normal, time is still passing same as always, and you’re not frozen in time.
Unless you’re having a hard time sleeping, then it really doesn’t help.
timekeeping is a tool of oppression
Nah, it’s a tool. It’s just as much a tool of oppression as precisely measuring space or precisely measuring other measurable quantities. Capitalists absolutely use this tool against us, but a proper revolution will certainly require good time management.
Man if I didn’t know what time it is I’d go batty, so consider me oppressed I guess?
I like the sun
Ew no I’m an indoor boy 😶🌫️
Why the hell do you even need a clock anyway?
Your oven/microwave are more than enough if you’re walking around the house. Every device you own will also tell the time.
12:00
I literally make it a habit to check my kitchen clock when I walk in there, lol, without it I was going batty.
I prefer digital clocks. For some reason I’ve always had a tough time telling the time on an analog clock. I can also get more accurate down the minute, not that that’s super notable since analog clocks you can still be mostly accurate.
I just don’t like the led displays on digital clocks, prefer my lcd displays. Less light
you need both imo. analog is great for when the power goes out, but suck if you have a bunch when the time changes twice a year, or the batteries begin dying and it becomes less and less accurate with no real warning. digital is usually pretty easy to set and is always accurate until the power goes out.
but suck if you have a bunch when the time changes twice a year
Or maybe we can just stop doing that

That is true in regards to the power going out. I do have both, I got my clock and my digital clock on my oven.
i love analog clocks but tend to only use digital for my own time keeping. it’s mostly cause while i do have my own analog clocks, i’m pretty slow at reading the time. have really fond memories of hearing the constant ticking and hourly chimes of all the cuckoo clocks at my grandmother’s home though.
