Greenland is not in Europe either. Iceland is.
Greenland is also not a member of EU, although they could have been if they wanted to.

This is incredibly rude to Greenland, and shows zero respect for their identity as Greenlanders independent from Denmark and EU.
Greenland is an autonomous part the Kingdom.
They are neither Danish nor European.
It is sad to see such an ignorant contrarian comment upvoted. Even after the facts have been presented.
Greenland is seeking 100% independence from Denmark, Greenland is not Denmark, it is a member of “rigsfællesskabet” ( Unity of the Realm ) just like Faroe Islands and Denmark.

It’s like arguing that Australia is British and European just because they are a member of commonwealth.

True. What I wanted to express was my (European) support for their resistance against Trump specifically and my hope that the EU will support Greenland against him as well. In my attempt to be snappy, I phrased it in a way that can be understood to be opposed to Greenland’s independence and I apologise. Wasn’t my intent.

Culturally speaking it is way more similar to the US. But due to US politics people might not want to acknowledge this right now.

yea, even the french parts are culturally closer to the usa than to france. we drive everywhere, we still use imperial for many things (inb4 someone posts The Chart), a lot of cultural products consumed here are american, more and more of them not even translated…

There are fundamental societal aspects where Canada absolutely is way way more European. Like Canada has only a third the homicide rate.
        https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/75-006-x/2025001/article/00011-eng.htm

Rates of homicide incidents remain considerably higher in the United States (5.7 homicides per 100,000 population) than in Canada (1.9 per 100,000)

Canada also has healthcare for all. They don’t have psychopathic regulations like USA does like death penalty and 3 strikes and you’re out.
So no Canada is not like USA, in that it is not a sociopathic society like USA is. Just because they like Whiskey and Disney doesn’t make them the same.

I thought so too, before I had been there. But now, after also having lived there for 1,5 years, I think Canada is more US light than European.

Wikipedia says “Participation in the contest is primarily open to all broadcasters with active EBU membership”, so I would think so.
