Anyway im hyped up on holiday with all my close friends, it’s so great, listening to the new charli single on loop, gonna do karaoke later, summer 2026 is so here babies
If you don’t want to feel inferior, you could always go to Washing DC
And what blows my mind is they’re all also total weebs for the US and vote for as far-right as they can to look less like that and more like Breezewood, PA
Yeah it’s hard to believe until you’ve seen it.
Continental Europe obviously has strong tendencies like that too. But it feels a lot more real in the UK.
I dunno man. I’ve been in Germany the last week and I have to say that in this one case, the UK might be better.
My partner hates Germany with a burning passion and it has nothing to do with the things you would normally hate Germany for and everything to do with their food and cultural norms. Also some of their public infrastructure was “disgusting”. Never been but I trust their judgement
I went to Germany in 2005. All the public toilets had large amounts of poo smeared all over the walls.
Das ist der classik “wandkacke”
So it’s a well-known thing in Germany then?
I’m not German but in all honestly, I don’t think it is that common. German bathrooms I’ve been have always been pretty clean, but I guess it depends on where you were exactly.
do you remember if you had to pay to use them?
I had to pay €1.50 to take a shit, so yeah
I don’t think so.
Thats the anglo homeland
Fun fact: the UK royal family (of German heritage) didn’t change their last name from “Saxe-Coburg and Gotha” to “Windsor” until July 1917. They were hedging their bets on which side would win WW1 and only did it when the outcome of the war was becoming more certain.
Berlin beats London any day of the week
I haven’t been to Berlin but I hear it’s both extremely gay and has a fair bit of neat DDR stuff to explore.
i remember stopping at dusseldorf on the way to watch a euros match and remember being miserable and hating every second there
probably didn’t help that it was raining, and maybe if i see berlin my mind would change
Berlin is nice but I wouldn’t want to be there anything longer than a week. Now Leipzig, I love. Shame it’s surrounded by fash.
I went to a great stag there, but yeah, it is pretty myself.
elaborate here because outside of like london or berlin whatever middling to big city I’ve been in in either country feels mostly the same
Expensive, privatised and dirty. Just like the UK, but with Germans. It’s a close thing
I think the reason France gets such a piss poor reputation (politics aside) is that Parisians tend to be stuck up. The rest of the country is quite nice.
I think the reason is that Paris for many years literally smelt like piss. It may still smell like piss but I don’t know anyone who has been in years.
It still smells like piss at least in some parts according to a family member who was there last year
I go to France a fair bit but I’m never like “I want to go to Paris this time”
My SO wants to visit France some day, what are some places we should go instead of Paris? We want to see nice museums and visit pretty places. She loved Barcelona, if that helps.
Nice is nice.
Nice.
Mont Saint Michel is France’s second-largest tourist attraction outside of Paris. Is it a tourist trap? Yes, absolutely, but it is still absolutely worth the visit. When we visited logistics were well-managed, the commercial eyesores on the shore were kept away from view and admittance to the monastery, the main attraction, was not as overpriced as you would have expected.
It is a very special place. If you have ever been into fantasy media, medievalism or even Disney movies you’re going to have a good time here.
Bordeaux is pretty good for that kind of thing
I’d say either Toulouse for pink buildings or Bordeaux for white buildings
