I’m living in Canada but I just wondered if we have anyone from Türkiye?

If so, how is life there? I know economy and everything got worse but I just wondered if there is hope for Erdoğan-free Türkiye with EU membership?

I moved to Canada at age 18, and I realized I’m trans here (fuck me sideways for not doing any research until moving to Canada like I could do something at age 15…) and I started HRT at age 18,5. I’m 22 now, and I don’t really see a future in Canada for myself.

Rents are crazy, no jobs anywhere, here is not really accepting imo anyways like not dystopia, and FFS costs 124k CAD like what the fuck?! I would rather get it in Türkiye.

I barely passed B2 English in Türkiye, and English is harder than I expected. I got accepted to a college but it was hard asf and I left. Education is really overrated like it’s not better than Türkiye imo. Everyone is so cold and fake here. I wish I figured out everything earlier but idk which option would be best for me.

I’m feeling hopeless and down…

I don’t think Erdogan is going for a 4th term tbh, but we will probably get another islamist far-righter. AKP is also trying very hard to make GAC only available for people over 25, and Climen production suspiciously stopped like a few months ago.

This wasn’t the country that Atatürk left us…

      Disgusting…

CHP was about to win though if they didn’t arrest mayors, so with “yeni parti” is there still a hope?

The only party that is actively aggressively campaigning for trans rights is DEM right now lmao. CHP has up to this point been completely quiet on trans issues (except for 1 MP I forgot the name of, who is also seen as a “terror sympathizer” by the public), and YENİ just recently published the statement that “Nobody will face discrimination for their sexual orientation/gender identity”, which is kinda the bare minimum ngl.

If YENİ comes to power, I’d guess at most we will get rid of the 21 year old age limit Erdogan put. We definitely aren’t getting the WPATH SoC though, especially with some “opposition” parties like İYİ who are conservative anti-LGBTQ Kemalists that broke off from a literal neofascist party, and who will surely side against us when push comes to shove.

Well, I hope Kilicdaroglu fucking drops out already so at the very least we can have that.

Well, until 2025, they allowed age 16 to start HRT with family consent.

They intentionally avoid talking about LGBT to attract more votes.

I’m sure they will give us our rights once they win.

If Erdoğan loses, they will join the EU as they’re looking for expansion, and they need Türkiye more than anything else.

They even think about accepting Türkiye into the EU with Erdoğan so idk.

I don’t want you to worry about me but I don’t see any other option than suicide for myself. I have nothing, no skills, no money, no support, language barrier, and Türkiye is even worse than here right now.

I wish I was never born. I’m living in pure agony…

I know it can seem impossible right now but queer and trans community will save you life. Please please please try to find your peers in your city, there are always queer and trans groups organising in major cities, there will be meetups, support groups etc. Please reach out to your trans community.

Aww babe dont say that! You DO have support, i support you and i love you. Others here as well i know for a sure fact are your supporters and are willing to help any way they or i can. Youre beautiful! Never forget that ❤️❤️

As for the post topic, i always thought of canada as a pretty forward country. Being its southern neighbor, i know what it can turn into fairly quickly and canada does seem to be having some trouble with reich wing ideology in its govt. Even still, canada is supposedly one of the top places for trans people to live. Is there any type of DHS (Human Resources) that you can reach out to? Thatd be an idea to start, see if you can get insurance and stuff to cover the cost.

Furthering that, here comes a barrage of questions you can answer or not answer or just answer some, whatever feels comfortable for you:

how old are you and do you have a passport? Do you have any other citizenship anywhere or any connections (family, friends, etc) to other countries? Are you employed?(no shame if youre not! Im not employed currently either!) Are you unsafe or under threat of ANY type of harm against you? And what is it that youre looking for ultimately? Like, what are your goals and what type of situation is ideal for you to achieve those goals? I hope im wording that well enough!

Ive felt exactly like you in regard to living in agony. Damn near all of us have. I know everyone says this but youre not alone, you are loved, i love you! You would be missed dearly, and id rather live in a world with you in it ❤️❤️

Like i always say to everyone feeling like you do, my DMs are always open to anybody here, including you. Never hesitate to reach out and talk to me ❤️❤️

Thank you but repping without knowing wtf was wrong with me since age 15 seriously damaged my brain…

I thought I’m feeling like a girl or want to be one because I’m a bisexual male, and when my therapist asked “would u be happy as a woman?” I said no because I thought he is being homophobic (back in Turkiye age 16 something). He was also a weirdo so I really thought he is fetishizing me lol. (Stupid teenager mind but he was seriously a weirdo like I said I have foot fetish just to wonder if I’m sick and he asked “u like up or down side?” I was like why does it matter then said one and he said “mmm” then switched to a random topic LMFAO)

Turkiye had insane amount of surveillance so I was afraid of searching LGBT stuff… I made trans friend in Canada only and it was too late for me when I found out everything…

It hurts really so bad… I lost everything. I’m never gonna be able to afford surgeries, my mental health is fucked due dysphoria like I don’t even want to go outside. I used to be fem even until age 16 and I fucked everything… I didn’t leave my comfort zone I was a coward… I didn’t recognize gaslighting patterns of my family etc.

I really just want to die. I’m post orchi and on hrt for 3,5 years and I was looking more fem and sounding more fem at age 15 even without HRT… What’s the point of keep living? My shoulders and ribcage became massive.

It is so painful, and I’m left to kill myself. My family also wants me to leave the home one day. I can’t believe that I did this to myself…

            I’m not brainwormed sadly…

Vice versa I was even delusional and ignorant at the beginning of my transition.

Realization of it was over before it began was brutal to me.

            Fuck this life seriously.

Instead of judging the country, maybe I should judge province by province as here’s system is different from Turkiye.

New Brunswick is the most affordable one according to internet.

I’m trying to learn if their social services pay my rent + food.

I wish Canada joined the EU… We wouldn’t be miserable…

I’m not Turkish, or trans, but I am a Canadian who left the country and will likely never move back. All of your concerns regarding my country are unfortunately valid, life is oppressively expensive there.

But your English is excellent, “fuck me sideways” made me chuckle as that’s a very natural expression in colloquial Canadian. Don’t give up, you’re young and the world is your oyster. If you have a Canadian passport, maybe look into some of the youth mobility visas that are available for Canadians under 30. Most commonwealth countries, and many European nations, take part in the program.

Thanks, my teacher was an openly Nazi lover literature teacher from Royal Family UK or something.

He was suspicious asf too like how in the hell you found my small city in Turkiye? It’s not even famous, even Turkish people don’t know the existence of my city/province.

He didn’t have any smartphone, just a small stupid laptop, and me and my friend thought he was a spy lol. Like how come you’re so self-confident? Nobody knows English very well there.

I also didn’t understand wtf he was talking about at age 15 but after learning about Nazism, everything made sense but I was too late kek.

“Do you think dystopia is realistic?”

Me and even older students in the class didn’t understand any shit. Now it makes sense…

He had white skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair. What a coincidence! Crazy fuck openly said he loves Hitler to our course management and nobody said everything. I didn’t know much about Hitler either just heard he was an asshole and genocide, which we all got used to hear in Turkiye that kind of stuff.

There was also a black Nigerian teacher in the same course lmfao, what an ignorant shithole. Nobody said anything.

Lived there for a couple years, not a local so take this as you will.

Economy wise its your average C-tier: inflation is very high, saving is difficult. Rent is not cheap, but definitely not Canada level. I was renting a good (albeit tiny) studio on the outskirts of Istanbul for 600$ back in 2023-2024, yearly contract. Probably around 850 now. Food and utilities are affordable.

Legalisation can be tricky: for example, you need to consult a list of areas where you’re permitted to live as a foreigner if you wanna do it legally. Migration offices are a buerocratic hell, but that highly depends on your citizenship and skin color.

Dunno how’s your türkçe, but its a must unless you wanna be stuck with expats. Ppl rarely know other languages outside of tourist traps.

Progressivity-wise, it’s complicated :) Local gay scene is pretty vibrant, but genderqueers have it rough: I had black nailpolish while looking vaguely femboy-ish, had some unpleasant interactions. If you pass though you’ll probably be fine.

Other than that though people are very friendly. Many will try to fleece you as a foreigner (like any tourist country), once you show that you’re broke it’s all chill.

Whereever you end up going I’m rooting for you fam ♥️
