I know now to stay away from dating people who have any trace of racism towards me. I don’t understand why this happens though. Just that there’s a corelation.

Honestly, if I have to be frank, it’s because race fetishism is racism.
People too often get in this mentality that “benevolent racism” is not a form of racism, but it is.
It may manifest differently than how people perceive a Klansman’s racism, but it is still racism.
It stems from the same objectifying mentality that dehumanizes people, strips them of their characteristics as individuals, and reifies pseudoscientific tropes that get packaged into categories we know as “races.”
Also, some answers here center right-wingers specifically, but to be clear, race fetishism is not an issue specific to right-wingers. Not even close. If anything, it is one of the most common forms of racism for leftists to engage in because it is a lot more socially acceptable, especially since we have many unconscious POC who see no issue with it and lean into it, so pushback is too damn rare.
This is so true and honestly I think most conscious yt ppl know it’s racism in their heart but actively refuse to accept their own introspection. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to reassure my boyfriend he’s not being too sensitive when some fwb lets the race play slip and turns my love into a sex object.
there’s no motion to a racist fetish that started as a racist fetish, surely there’s a unique mechanism for obsessive hatred turning into taboo lust?
It can be, but it is not necessarily always the case. I guess I should’ve specified that clearly. Race fetishism alone, even without such an obsessive hatred precipitating it, is still a form of racism. I see aggressive racial hatred and racial fetishism as stemming from the same mentality—an objectifying or degrading one—either way, no different than how sexually objectifying women, be it in a performative “nice guy” fashion or in the manner of some manosphere bro, is in and of itself misogynistic. On the surface, they may just appear to manifest in different ways.
no i got that and you’re objectively correct
i think we’re talking past eachother a little.
