The number of accidents on Dutch highways heading towards the border has increased by 250 percent since Germany introduced border controls on September 1, 2024, De Telegraaf reports based on data requested from the Rijkswaterstaat.

The border controls cause traffic jams. Accidents occur when motorists not expecting a traffic jam on the highway can’t stop in time.

    Skill issue.

(In seriousness, border controls need to stop. Wtf are we doing.)

The worst thing is that almost nothing happens at the border patrol, it’s just a farce to keep the German right wing population happy and everyone has to suffer because of it.

You drive into a large traffic jam because everything is funnelled onto one lane where you can only progress at walking speed. Many times there isn’t even someone on guard. And if there are guards, they are talking to each other.

Got to say, it’s not very cheerful nor is it welcoming to drive into a country like that.

A court just ruled again that these border controls are illegal, I‘d really like my Schengen Contract back

I’m pretty sure that it was pretty clear for some time that they aren’t legal, but if you’re a political party in Europe and you badly want votes that might be going to AfD or similar, this is a low-effort way to score some points.

Yes, also upheld by German courts. Still ignored by our government. They seem to have learned from the Republicans that you can just ignore the law.

No, they are allowed for specific reasons in limited time frames. Currently, the reason given is curbing illegal immigration and terrorism (good job at that, Dobrindt), and the limited time frame is until 15. September 2026, at which point it is expected to be renewed for another 6 months as the government has done for 2 years now.

(The attack could not be prevented with border controls, I just mention it because it is clear they only want to fight terrorism by taking our rights, not by actually using the tools they already have)

The amount of Dutch and German drivers is roughly equal. Perhaps it’s those darn BMW drivers. You always see them smoking, wearing a cap, with their chair set all the way back, overtaking cars on the right.

The cars are heading towards Germany, so it’s the Germans who can’'t drive. It’s Germans who want to keep brown peoole out no matter the cost.

I don’t know how to tell you this, but it doesn’t matter which way the cars are headed, since cars tend to travel over a border twice, once in both directions. And since the traffic jam stretches from the border into the Netherlands, the people who live in that are are also affected. I wouldn’t agree with lime, since any country has accidents in traffic jams, but you are just as wrong here.

Anyway, full agree on 2nd point that the border patrols are just appeasing racists for votes at a great cost to our rights and should be stopped immediately.

And this is why you need to maintain a safe following distance and pay attention to the road.

Another headline showing that humans shouldn’t be sole drivers. Time to pass a law that every car must have assisted driving mode.

Your car will be an unrepairable smartphone that spies on you and you will be happy. Also all accidents will still be your fault because we disable all features 2 milliseconds before we drive you into a wall, soz.

Front collision warning/braking is already mandatory on all new cars after 2024. And many older more expensive cars have it as well.
