Look at this hardcore motherfucker.
Why did we go from that, to having the only acceptable option to be a hoodie and jeans? Maybe add a baseball cap if you want to push the limits.
I just want to hang out in my flat cap, smoke a huge pipe and slap my suspenders like bass strings ;_;
Global warming made it too hot to wear a sweater all year

Be the change you wish to see in the world
masculine
Nah buddy dressing like an old timey sailor has no gender. Some of the most sailor coded people I’ve seen were either nb or butch lesbian
i hate to break it to you but having a desire to dress in any way that isn’t within 1 standard deviation of the mean makes you a hipster.
This outfit isn’t that outlandish. Sweaters and work pants are timeless. The suspenders are less common but totally reasonable for someone actually laboring. The hat is also less common but not too attention-grabby compared to a fedora or such.
Hipsters are about aesthetic over function. Wearing things with no regard for the weather or time of day or other circumstance. But an outfit that functions perfectly in its setting is timeless. I could see someone wearing this on a cold, rainy day.
(i agree with you, i was being facetious in my original reply)
I dress like an 1800s cowboy with a pocket watch and everything.
Just do it! I’ve worn a flat cap for over a decade and have no regrets

It’s cool AF… and makes you look like Lenin. That’s why I have one, and it’s really neat!

I wear overalls at work so instead of a flatcap i have a hardhat but otherwise I’m living the dream
I’ll do this once I go gray
Sit on a rocking chair, tell the neighborhood kids all about my adventures on the high seas
Have 'em call me Old Man Longbottles
Pleeeeeeeease, Old Man Longbottles - sing us that sea shanty 'bout a bear again.
Ohhhh, there once was a bear what lived on the sea
Six sides she have and just as many knees!
I hate having the size, build and bearing to pull off captain-style longcoats but living in the Age of Heat Domes
simply move to Maine and you’ll be covered 11/12 months of the year
In the early 2010s I worked in a co-op grocery store in new england and like a quarter of my masculine presenting coworkers looked something like this. There actually was a guy that would smoke a pipe on his breaks if he had the time. The butchers would all wear wellies to keep the gross liquids out, except for one guy that had knee high black leather boots. Instead of a backpack he used a wicker basket the size and shape of a backpack. He packed his lunch in mason jars and wax paper wrapped with twine. Idk if they’re all still living there doing that, but if you want this life I think your best chance is in new england
Maine?
Nope, and we weren’t anywhere near the coast either!
High-rise pants & suspenders (I mean pants designed for suspenders, with the hooks) disappeared due to capitalist cost-cutting circa WW2. Low-rise pants & belts require less fabric. I like truly functional clothing that move with your body, so the pictured fit does it for me too
I’d love to wear turtlenecks but I can’t handle the sensory issues that come with them
i wear thick suspenders working outside/around the house for like landscaping/gardening. way more comfortable and keeps my thick workpants up. im sure i look insane to passersby.
the thought of wearing that much wool anywhere near water makes my brain itch
but wool is hard to beat in wet conditions because it doesn’t lose its thermal properties. It’s perfect for dock workers and sailors
If that’s how you want to dress, then go for it! And show us a pic.
This stevedore doesn’t have both straps on the suspender straps buttoned. That’s a work hazard.
And don’t get me started on the lack of ppe! For god’s sake I bet he’s not even wearing non slip shoes!
