Joe Biden changed nothing about ICE and became a border hawk and Kamala Harris said something like Trump would rather run on a problem than solve a problem, that problem being immigrants. debord-tired

Liberals do care about aesthetics, so to be fair, I really don’t think it would be this bad under the Dems right now. But the problem is they contributed to this atmosphere by joining in the Trump campaign and demonizing immigrants. Instead of saying it wasn’t a problem, they were saying we’ll solve it better than those guys.

The funny thing is Trump campaign also cares about aesthetics but in the opposite way. Even if it’s less effective in reducing crime or unemployment, Trump supporters want to see their government out there terrorizing people in huge fascistic displays, as opposed to the quiet behind the scenes deportations of Biden. Trump signals he’s listening to his supporters in this way while the Dems are constantly telling their supporters to shut up, we’re working on it in the back room with the experts. “We’re serious people and thus work slow and steady.” It’s stupid and horrifying, but Trump is making their government do things in big flashy ways that make headlines.

        • Right the Dems do it in a more orderly less dramatic more routine fashion. BUT and this must be pointed out to liberals they build the scaffolding, the machinery, the apparatus necessary to support this kind of naked brutality that Republicans seek to do. They could instead tear down the scaffolding and apparatus but they don’t. They expand it, they give it more money, they give it approval for spyware vendor contracts and access to mass surveillance tools, they give it military gear, training, etc.

They’re the cop standing back looking the other way while his buddies beat you with truncheons.

I’ll never forget Obama signing some law “with reservations”, or something like that. Maybe it was one of the spy ones? He might have actually done it with a few now that I think about it. But the point was, he expressed concerns, but still signed the damn thing, and of course it’s been used by Trump to do heinous shit.

Found it. It allowed indefinite detentions.

dems would have been more polite about it and liberals would ignore it because it would be quiet and by the book. at least (and it’s not really a comfort) liberals cannot ignore this.

They did the same thing in 2004. The lib answer to the War on Terror was to nominate John Kerry to report for duty rat-salute-2 and wage these internationally condemned wars “the right way.”

Sure, domestically it seems that way. It doesn’t seem much different at all when you’re living in a country a lot of those migrants come from and continue seeing a number of them being deported back where locals harrass them.

It probably wouldn’t be this bad, but mainly because they probably wouldn’t be patrolling stormtroopers around in major cities to intimidate everyone, just deporting people quietly, and it sucks that they apparently didn’t put a single barrier up to slow down the next Trump, which turned out to be Trump. It’s hardly even a vote for harm reduction.

        • I said in 2020 and stand by it now, Trump beating Biden was the harm reduction path. We could’ve had just 4 more years of Trump.

Instead we let Biden do 4 years of Trump while actual Trump and his team were able to regroup and plan.

    he said ‘fuck them kids’

Don’t ever forget the fragility of human life. No matter your physical capabilities, or your influence with those around you, everything can end in a matter of an instant by those you consider beneath you. Certain people need to be reminded of their place.

When I read that, I thought about the types of people joining ICE, and, maybe even more disturbingly, it came off as a meme.

To think that these people are so flippant, callous and apathetic is terrifying.

You’d think the grunts would be aware of this fact on the basis of their superiors treating them as disposable but I guess a little body armor and a riot shield is all that’s needed for the illusion of invincibility.

Honestly it’s less about the armor, and more about the utter spinelessness of the population they’re terrorizing. They’re bold because Americans have, for a long time, been utterly pathetic. One of these days they’re gonna push too far, and shit’s really gonna hit the fan. A lot of these chuds are cowards at heart too, and they’ll die or rout. Then it’ll just be war between a population of terrified cornered animals and a small, well-equipped minority of bloodthirsty monsters.

Nobody wins. But from the rubble, there will be opportunity for significant change. Maybe it’ll be positive. Maybe those of us left will be enslaved by feudal warlords. Considering the state of the left in America (essentially nonexistent) I call it a coinflip. shrug-outta-hecks

I’m slightly bolstered by the knowledge the Bolsheviks were small and barely existent and then their membership ballooned all of a sudden from a few key decisions. Hell, they were still basically the minority when they took control during the October Revolution. It’s just nobody liked the alternatives, so they just needed people not to get in their way or fight for the other side.

I’ve been teetering between this comforting knowledge of positive history and black-pilled knowledge of times it’s gone terribly (all the fascism, the failed revolutions, etc).

“Fuck dem kids” to a bunch of children tied to each other with zip ties would’ve prompted me to ask whether they know what it feels like to have someone rummage through their eye sockets with their thumbs. You can do an awful lot to a person bare handed if you really really really want to and being present for something like this could really cause that snap for me, I do not think I would keep my composure in that situation with the kids involved, that particular officer deserves to pay. Most of the time when people fight they’re not trying to do that kind of damage, you can fight in a whole different way entirely if you’re actually trying to destroy someone.

      • It’s the same point as going skiing on an extreme rated slope. It’s about adrenaline, an experience, making yourself the movie badass, using expensive as shit stuff to horrify and intimidate other human beings and getting off on your power over them, your power to make them feel fear. Plus the brass thinks it looks cool and tough and military-like and sends their hog base squealing with joy over this kind of military attack on the sub-humans they hate.

Yeah but it’s fucking stupid when walking in the front door has more strategic power because you control all the entrances and exits.

The only timeremovedlling onto the roof is necessary is if you can’t go in the front door or you reasonably want control of the roof for whatever reason. That has military purposes, it has almost no purpose for cops.

I wrote a joke where I had him say “This will not stand,” and then he does nothing. But I checked his Bluesky account, removed that joke, and I started again. It’s actually worse. Here’s a post from 2 days ago. He doesn’t even say “This will not stand.” In a 3 minute vid - without saying a word about what he’ll do - he lists what ICE has done in Chicago and he says that Noem, Trump, and Homan lie.

      It’s a 2028 presidential campaign stump speech.

Over the weekend, we received reports of federal agents from ICE and Customs abusing their power.

And now, we’re being told the Trump Administration wants to deploy 100 military troops to Illinois.

One thing is clear — none of this is making Illinois safer.

I remember my lib friends told me he said he’d actually use the police to stop ICE, or use his powers in some way, but they seem to have called his bluff and he’s not doing anything. It’s like the stupid boats that accompanied the flotilla.

On a national stage - he was the loudest voice yelling “authoritarianism”. But of course he’s also a lib so he’d never do anything. The dems are turning words like “authoritarian” into lib campaign rhetoric and the American public will stop listening just like they do when Chuck Schumer drones on and on about kitchen table issues and— Man, I’m so sleepy! Wait a minute. What I was talking about!
