The Supreme Court is currently controlled by a bunch of Federalist Society freaks. It’s the culmination of a decades-long conservative project to rig the federal judiciary in their favor. As with many pre-Trump conservatives, there’s a lot of overlap in goals, but also some significant points of disagreement.
It’s also an institution that takes a much longer view than Trump. There is at least some desire to maintain the legitimacy of the courts.
