shitty headline. it’s limited to lifting sanctions imposed specifically because of the iranian nuclear program “if Tehran takes “clear, verifiable steps” on its nuclear programme.” so it’s a nothing burger gesture. iran will not get access to the international banking system anytime soon.

An extremely cynical/pessimistic thought I have is that Western nations may be trying to get Iran to sell out Lebanon. US officials are already denying that an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon was part of the deal and Israel is obviously still frothing at the mouth and killing civilians with reckless abandon. So basically I’m wondering if the West is trying to sweeten the deal so much with sanctions relief and even reparations that Iran won’t back out even if the Zionist entity keeps bombing Beirut.
But since they already pulled this with the JCPOA, there’s no trust in the Europeans. They’re not going to leave a key ally out to dry for a hypothetical that’s already proven false.
Also Iran needs the war to some extent, because it allows it to stay in a dialectic of external conflict rather than internal.

Never thought I’d see the day this was the front page of the BBC.

Return to status quo
The collective arrogance of Trump, Netanyahu and their loyal pups is something to behold.
No no, this is not status quo at all. Iran will be $300 billion richer, raking in ~$30 billion in “environmental fees” for Hormuz every year, and have all sanctions dropped.
And gcc countries learned that US security guarantees are worthless
American prestige has been badly damaged and over 2 dozen high ranking experienced military officers were fired for telling their alcoholic boss this was a stupid idea
This is not status quo

The Great “Uncle” Crying of 2026
I would, indeed, describe the US as a dictatorship of various kinds of uncles.
Damn Empire has completely lost whatever prestige it had.
