      No, there’s some justification for his attitude. id genuinely has been a massive influence on the industry on the technology side of things. The first Doom engine was revolutionary. John Carmack straight-up invented new math for shadow calculation in id Tech 3. Microsoft made a really stupid decision here.

      Still a god tier engine though, one of many in a long line of god tier engines from Id

        I don’t know anything about engines, but looking at it all the proprietary idtech engines have been basically only used for Doom and Wolfenstein and like that one Indians jones game

          yeah it is hard to say if it’s actually good without seeing other companies efforts but that’s one of the problems with it being a proprietary engine isn’t it other people aren’t going to put effort into using it but I remember it ran really well on my old ass PC at the time despite looking so good which is the primary thing I’m judging it by like in my opinion the best engine is still probably the fox engine for the reason of quality to requirements
