Edit to add: store brand, not Sabruh.
…zionist dip on a piece of toast?
That looks like corporate Zionist hummus, please make your own hummus its truly not that difficult and will be worth the effort.
once you start making hummus, you don’t stop making hummus
Making fucking vats of hummus for like $2 it rules, put some basil, toasted garlic, red pepper and cumin in some a few days ago, I don’t even bother with the tahini.
Don’t bother with Tahini?? Seems like that’s a necessary condition for hummus lol
Nah it tastes fine and tahini is by far the most expensive ingredient.
If you have access to a market that sells toasted sesame seeds, you can throw them in a high power blender (like 1500w+) and just leave them for 15 mins or so.
Or, you know, you could toast them yourself.
I guess this gets to a deeper problem: foods developed somewhere which are adopted elsewhere despite the shifted material basis for the food. Hummus in the Mediterranean was developed where sesame seed oil was cheap and easy, but when it other areas it becomes more luxurious. Maybe when we do this process, the natural adaptation should be more prominent and given a new name? Just spitballing here. But i get where you’re coming from. Where i live its fairly cheap and easy to bulk up on
I use sesame oil instead of tahini cuz I don’t bother to make it myself
Got a simple recipe handy? I don’t have a food processor, just a knockoff bullet blender.
Ok, that’s actually totally doable regardless of recipe, you’ll just want to put it through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth to strain out the chunky bits and skins. You could try to then re-blend those chunks if there are a lot.
Overcooking the chickpeas in something like a pressure cooker will also fuck up the skins in a way that will make it easier to process.
I got both a nut milk bag and a pressure cooker. I’ll try both and report back with results.
Fwiw I use a bullet blender, no additional straining or processing and it comes out fine, better than store bought.
My one hot tip is when blending, add a few ice cubes, I don’t know why but it really does make a much smoother hummus.
From a cost/time perspective it’s much easier than boiling/peeling/straining
I usually always have a bag of dried chick peas for my favorite snack which rehydrates and slightly fries them. Going to try making some and dumping it into the bullet right now.
Purged for counter revolutionary hummus consumption
Is that Sabra hummus.
Looks like it

Kroger generic brand
As you were

Sabra is the worst commercially available hummus in terms of taste and consistency, IMO. Cedar’s is better.
Kroger had a 1/2 off sale on a brand called Cedar’s Organic so I tried some and it looked and tasted just like Sabra. There is another brand that looks the same although they all have different colored lids so now I’m wondering if they are just copying or Sabra is using different branding to get around BDS. Searching around suggests Cedar’s is owned by Lebanese immigrants in Massachusetts but I think I’ll try to make some myself since this brand is normally $6 for 10oz
Good to know. My partner actually quite liked Sabra and was very dissapointed when we found out it was Israeli owned
Probably just capitalist efficiency in action, all made at the same factory, with the same ingredients, but with a different label slapped on it so they can charge 30% mark up for the name brand one.
i condemn
You should absolutely be making your own though, it’s absolutely worth the effort. But y’all do know that store brand hummus exists, right?
Like, there are brands other than Sabra that do exist. The Zionists do not have a monopoly on mediocre processed hummus. All the brands taste the same because it’s a highly-processed fungible food product designed to be consistent and shippable.
And this is indeed the Kroger store brand, although it’s not much better considering that family is shit too. But it’s them or Walmart by me.

What is instead it was supbrah hummus and it was homemade and you gave it to your homies as a thoughtful lil gift
Hummus and very small toast?
HUMMUS!
