These last few months almost everything has had the same smell on it. Whether it’s letters through the post, items bought in the supermarket, anything at all. It’s a very distinctive perfume smell. Doesn’t matter where it was bought or who delivered it, everything smells like this now.
UK thing? I haven’t really noticed anything different here in burgerland.
(not serious)
I have Randy, I’ve noticed it for years, it’s the smell of shit.
Not a perfume smell but i have noticed the smell of plastics/printer resin a lot more
That and wildfire smoke, here.
Oh I live in BC so that’s called “summer smell”
[Not really but we do smell it every year]
Its beginning to smell a lot like Christmas

the liberals are putting chemicals into everything to turn you gay
Seems to be working, ngl
did you try licking them?Yes, I have noticed this for a while. Every package I get always has the same mild artificial perfume scent.
How long have you been noticing it?
I noticed it for the first time in 2021 on international packages shipped by DHL, but then I started noticing on almost every delivery.
I’m glad I’m not the only one then, I was starting to think it really was hallucinations.
Me too! Nobody really talks about it.
What does it smell like to you?
Sweet, mildly floral, and a bit like cleaning chemicals.
Yes! This is exactly what I am smelling too. So it is real.
Haven’t noticed anything here either. It might be a trendy perfume in the UK these days?
It only seems to be on bought and delivered items, not on people.
thrift store items all smell like delouser. maybe a similar pesticide is sprayed over parcels
That’s an interesting theory, I guess they would have just started doing it a few months ago.
Hm, that’s tricky. There’s some hand soaps and lotions that have a very distinct smell, but you’d smell those on people as well. Scented paper is another option, but that doesn’t make sense for packaging either
Hand sanitizers are scented, too.
I’m wondering if all delivery drivers now have the same air freshener hanging in their vehicles or something. Whatever it is, it’s horrible.
My guess: someone was shipping a huge quantity of something scented, and it wasn’t packed securely, and it broke open and got all over all the sorting equipment and now everything that touches that machine smells like that now.
I’ve seen similar things happen.
The only thing is this is happening from multiple different delivery companies and supermarkets that use their own couriers.
I’ve been wondering if it’s a chemical marker being used in shipping to designate that a parcel has been previously scanned/screened.
That’s a good call actually. It might just be an air freshener, and those things never smell nice. I’m not really sensitive to smells in general, but I can still smell the one a relative had hanging in his car when I was little, and my nose and eyes are still burning from the aggressive chemical stink.
The use of artificial scents is one of my least favourite things about modern life.

Is it on the outside of delivered things or the inside? Can your landlady smell it?
It gets inside too. She says she can’t smell it but she has a very poor sense of smell anyway.
