FF: Mystic Quest always cracked me up because even as a kid, I got the sense that this was what Japan thinks of us over here.
Also, the lamias in the ice palace level were fuckin’ brutal if you let them live for more than one turn. That game had an interesting magic system, too.
I never really considered Mystic Quest a true Final Fantasy game, just like the game boy Saga and “Mana” (Seiken Densetsu) series games even though they were called that in the US.
