My dumb fucking chud coworker said something about how being a communist isn’t making me happy and i’m like, fuck no it hasn’t made me happy, and he laughed like it was a big fucking joke. I think these people are well aware of the fact that they’re slaves but have managed to bifurcate their brains and keep that knowledge locked in some brain oubliette. And that’s why they get so piss drunk mad and say you’re bringing up politics when you speak about simple facts like historical wage rates and their decline

You missed out on a chance to recite the Completed Thought of Mazovian Socio-Economics. 0.0000% of communism has been built…

Personally, being a revolutionary socialist makes a lot of my job (retail/logistics) more bearable than for many coworkers, because I recognize the pressures that are being exerted instead of the pressures remaining as enigmas. Also I have hundreds of anarchist friends and I save about 50% of my net wages.

If it’s worth anything, you make me smile.

Meh. The data is worth shit. Not only are conservatives more interested in lying about this question to others, they also neeeeed to lie to themselves or they could not sustain the level of ignorance, which is most often even a choice.

I know these “happy” conservatives. They believe everything is worse today and that the world will likely end soon (especially if they are christian) but funny enough, they are happy if you ask them …

Of course they do. They live in a world that is structured witi oppressive hierarchies in a way that they feel as fundamentally just. They might whine here and there about marginalised groups being uppity but in the large picture of things they have every reason to be happy with the way the world works.

Being, on average, richer than other groups certainly helps brighten their moods well.

0.0% of comunism has been built and all most of us have managed to do is make ourselves experts at making ourselves sad.

It makes sense people that worship suffering and domination would be pleased woth the state and history of the world.

Some probably. If you talk to my coworkers they fully embrace the suffering of it all. Why isn’t is suffering? Is it because they don’t see the outgroup as people? You may be too kind here

I think that’s absolutely true, but I don’t think it means they are happier. Fascists are high on copium at all times. Their default state is seething, a lot of those motherfuckers are on the brink of complete mental breakdown at all times. They go through life constantly angry at everything and everyone. But culturally they have to say they’re happy and loving life and everything is great, even when they don’t mean it.

It begs the question of what happiness is, and that’s a hard question to answer.

Saying “I am happy” because of social pressure to look happy is different from being in a positive mental state most of the time.

There are affective self-ratings from 1 to 10 that have been used, and these show statistically significant patterns. But the most rigorous approach is the Day Reconstruction Method, where you get randomly prompted during the day to rate your mental state and state what your activity is. It’s more labor-intensive and takes more time, though.

This is nonsense and will flip completely under a democratic presidency. Tribalism is just that high among americans. Everything is great under MY leader, everything is awful under their leader.

This chart would’ve been completely the opposite under Obama, or Kamala for that matter.

Wow, conservatives aee more likely to be less in touch wirh their mental health issues and more willing to lie when self reporting whether theyre aware that theyre lying or not? Online conservatives have turned being depressed into their entire recruitment methodology and the less online miss when they could hit their way out of feeling sad. They arent feeling better they just dont admit that they feel like shit all the time.

why wouldn’t the people who view present hierarchies and distributions of entitlements as natural/good (and who frequently benefit from these) be happier than the skeptical (and those that don’t)? why pretend they aren’t happy? why are ya’ll coping-- why are you insisting that conservatives aren’t happy actually?

I’m kind of split on the issue because you are right about that, but also I’ve seen the way that conservatives both live in a world where they are constantly jumping at shadows of communism and DEI and so on and also have some sort of ideological fixation on going “I’m not mad, you’re mad”.

If you’re detached enough from real consequence and your team is doing well, those types of emotions can be enjoyable on some level. I see it as similar to a sports fan who always thinks the sky is falling for their team but religiously follows it anyway.

They say this and blow a gasket when they see a black person in a tv show or see some made up shit on social media to get mad at. Idk how happy they are in comparison but they damn sure don’t seem as content as a lot of these studies say.
