Since it’s hellworld, I’m sure the answer will be no but…is it irrational to ask ourselves whether their complete mask off moment is happening a bit too quickly?

Material conditions are getting worse, make no mistake. Capitalism is due for a catastrophic event. But, we’re kind of not there yet, and the chuds are making such a big stink about being the catalysts for this once in a generation ™ extinction event in capitalism. And the amount of poo, So much poo, they throw it everywhere and they do it so loudly that even the most politically unaware are made aware of their pant shitting wrecking this paper tiger of an economy.

So that combined with all the flat out fucking weird and supremely distasteful shit they’re doing and saying makes me feel like they’re overplaying their hand. Atp they just have to kill all of us because i can’t imagine they’re not turning off a lot of normies

I dunno, there’s a lot of people who are pretty content with being bigoted through some veil of propriety, don’t think they want to fight on the kkk frontlines and be confronted for it. But I’m probably being extremely hopeful.

There will never be a shortage of bigots to apply boots to necks. Never has been, never will be. You have to fight them constantly.

Look, I know my doomerism is well recorded. So I won’t make this comment a big spiral how we’re all doomed, but I think this question is important.

Back in the aughts, when was there this cultural turning point where it seemed less like the chuds won the culture wars forever and Obama could possibly be viable? Was there like a big slip-up or a cultural L the chuds took like a lefty gamergate or something? I know the atheist movement was popular on YouTube at the time, and some folks like Sam Harris spoke in a way to make chuddery less cool. Not only was being a chud disrespectful, but it was inaccurate and only stupid people cling to bigotry to feel better about themselves.

TL;DR: Not to tangent too much, but what worked and didn’t work against chuds in the aughts? Was there a “gamergate of the left” moment back then or just a series of VERY quiet cultural victories?

The failure of the troop surge in Iraq combined with the global financial crisis to make USAmericans feel like losers. Bush’s folksy stupid guy persona turned sour, he went from “a guy I want to have a beer with” to “a stupid piece of shit that ruined everything.”

Left-wing radicalization moment: “I lost my fucking job thanks to the whims of the ruling class.”

Right-wing radicalization moment: “game protagonists have COOTIES now!”

Chuds are the pinnacle of first world problems.

If Obama had actually done some of the popular things he had promised, the political landscape would be incredibly different today. He captured a huge amount of support across the spectrum because he, like trump, was saying out loud that things weren’t great and change was needed. He burned the whole thing down by being a standard ass neoliberal and disillusioned millions of people.

You could think that but then don’t forget that everybody just chooses the version of reality that they want and which is being pushed at them by the media they choose

People will be okay with the nazi clusterfuck this rotten shithole is until they turn on their definitely-not-laundered-Fox bullshit and the people on it tell them to stop being okay with it

I wasn’t joking yesterday when I said NOTHING WILL EVER IMPROVE until the media owners and media shitheads in this country are all hucked into a pit and forced to grind each other to death under their own weight

“Freedom of the press” is another of the principal slogans of “pure democracy”. And here, too, the workers know — and socialists everywhere have admitted it millions of times — that this freedom is a deception while the best printing presses and the biggest stocks of paper are appropriated by the capitalists and while capitalist rule over the press remains, a rule that is manifested throughout the world all the more strikingly, sharply, and cynically, the more democracy and the republican system are developed, as in America for example.

The first thing to do to win real equality and genuine democracy for the working people, for the workers and peasants, is to deprive capital of the possibility of hiring writers, buying up publishing houses, and hiring newspapers. And to do that the capitalists and exploiters have to be overthrown and their resistance suppressed.

The capitalists have always used the term ‘freedom’ to mean freedom for the rich to get richer and for the workers to starve to death.

In capitalist usage, freedom of the press means freedom of the rich to bribe the press, freedom to use their wealth to shape and fabricate so-called public opinion.

In this respect, too, the defenders of ‘pure democracy’ prove to be defenders of an utterly foul and venal system that gives the rich control over the mass media. They prove to be deceivers of the people who, with the aid of plausible, fine-sounding, but thoroughly false phrases, divert them from the concrete historical task of liberating the press from capitalist enslavement.

Ignoring the dogpile on the lib to talk about your question: Maybe? Probably not? Idk.

The right are just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. They’re pushing all the fascism boundaries and finding where there’s legit resistance and where it’s weak enough that they can push through it. And it seems like they’ve mostly found out that they can get away with it.

Will there be a shortterm backlash against the right electorally? Probably…but in the slightly longer term maybe electoral results will matter even less.

Well, the American right is not really a unified block with common material interests, but a hodgepodge mix of QAnon conspiracy theorists, cultural warriors, neoconservatives, Christian Nationalists, corporatists, etc. It’s no surprise that as a whole they are self-sabotaging and dysfunctional. The big surprise really was that Trump was able to hold all of them together for so long, but even that looks increasingly untenable as his popularity wanes.

We need to find the rightoid sin eater. The least popular link of the right and mercilessly attack it and claim every single rightoid is like this, no exceptions. What are they going to do, complain we’re unfairly dismissing them all for superficial reasons?

Don’t forget neo-nazi reactionaries, KKK guys (Venn diagram overlap, but still separate groups), nazbols, groipers, Yarvinists, etc. It’s a long-running joke that the left is so dis-unified because of all the disparate ideologies, but holy fuck. At least leftist are striving for the same goals, even if they disagree about the route to get there. The US right is such a fucking mess it’s not even comparable.

I’m not expecting it, since casualty avoidance is a fundamental part of modern US military doctrine. The US Empire understands that it’s very important that their military be viewed as invincible and able to act with impunity.

That’s a good thing, in a way; it means that Venezuela “merely” has to be a prickly enough target that there is some danger that an F-35 gets shot down. IMO, that’s why the US will probably do a combination of cruise missiles at hard central targets, and then F-35 strikes on less defended periphery targets. It’s way of calibrating your attack so that it looks big and tough (you get one of those night-time videos of an explosion in Caracas), while avoiding risk.

(An actual ground invasion would be a gigantic shitshow, of course)
