Orb

It looks like one of those animals where the popular rumor is “They actually should not be able to fly! We still don’t know how they do it”. That is, of course, wrong… It’s clearly thrown like a snowball for fun by larger animals such as bears and apes to get enough lift under it’s tiny wings.
and bigfoots
I don’t know if these qualify as obscure but I feel a deep spiritual bond with African elephant shrews aka sengis. They’re the fastest mammals for their body weight, with some being clocked at running 30 km/h. For comparison the average rat or mouse can run around 12km/h. Elephant shrews are so amazing and I lay awake at night thinking about how much I love them. They’re my people.

And of course I also love viscachas. Fun fact they’re not rabbits, but are more like chinchillas. They resemble rabbits because of covegent evolution which is super cool.

They look the inverse animal of each other.
Lightning fast elephant shrew vs viscacha who needs a lil nap
Basically the two modes of my ADHD
Apparently my fursona is the viscachas cause I look like that give or take 70% of the time
I like the Andean Mountain Cat. Most wild cat species have some kind of funny proportions that I don’t care for. I like how poofy and squat faced these dudes are.

Probably a dik dik:

I’ve been partial to the cassowary lately because they’re the closest thing to deinonychus and they terrorize settlers.

Strawberry squid. A tweet described it as looking like what Bjork sounds like.

!!!
It really is a fabulous squid. You could call it squidulous.
Exsquidsite
That’s better than mine.
Only took me 24 hours to think of it 😅
[Warning, bug]
Blue Banded Bee

Literally i was thinking this before I wrote my joke answer. It was either that or christmas beetle
Sorry I was using your braincell for today
Oh that’s okay i don’t need it til thursday as you were, slugger
What kind of honey does it produce? Blueberry lemonade flavor?
like most bee species, this one does not make honey.
yes! yes!!!
Both of my favs have popped up in media over the last half decade which ruined their obscure status, but:
Pangolin

Shoebill Stork

SHOEBILLS MENTIONED! I have autism and got obsessed with those guys for like five years!
They do this thing where they clack their beaks and it sounds like an AK47 going off. They can also eat like every other animal. Two are born to each mother and the stronger sibling stomps the smaller one to death immediately for some reason and I guess the mom is like, “That’s my boy.”
They’re also extremely friendly to humans. They fucking bow to humans and you’re supposed to fucking bow back. If you’re a human they really like, they will pull off one of their feathers and GIVE THEM TO YOU!
Shoebills were on an animal review podcast I listened to. They rated them poorly on aesthetics, the bastards.
rated them poorly on aesthetics
The committee will hear of this.

The narrator is kinda bro-ey, but this video has hunting, flight, bowing, and other footage. The “collapsing” hunting technique is interesting. https://youtu.be/ukTUG2Okqi4
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Ah fae creatures
A horror film with a shoebill as the antoganist would be incredible
Fucked up looking dog
There are some day geckos in Madagascar who are pollinators

I don’t know how obscure they are but I love them forever
Vampire squid!
I love the Tatú Carreta, I would kill for the Tatú Carreta.

Saiga antelope, they look like something from the ice age

the Yapok, or Water Opossum, embodiment of

I’ve never seen one of those before and I am instantly smitten. Look at that little fella!
Either the star nosed mole or the proboscis monkey, for some reason everyone in my elementary school class was obsessed with both of them when we discovered they existed
